A video has recently gone viral of a little boy falling asleep at the wheel of his Jeep Power Wheels toy car, over and over again. While it's cute when a kid is doing it, an adult in a real car is a very different story. To help, here are a few of our favorite ways to keep our eyes wide open when that drowsiness sets in on the road.

Eat something sour. When you're passing out, nothing can perk you up again like the taste of something tangy. For many, this can mean an energy drink, as their flavors are generally quite sour or tart, but the danger with these is the inevitable sugar crash. Instead, we suggest sucking on a lemon. If that's too much for you, an apple or orange slice will do the trick.

Open the window. This works especially well in the winter, as the blast of cold air to the face would keep anyone awake. However, no matter the temperature, being assaulted by the winds should definitely help. Just make sure your eyes don't get too dry.

Chew gum. Working your mouth and jaw muscles will keep you from yawning and will be just enough physical stimulation to keep your brain active. Switch the piece from side to side in your mouth, so the motion of chewing doesn't become automatic.

But, if worse comes to absolute worst, find a place that's legal and safe to pull over and sleep. No matter how important your destination is, nothing is worth your life, or the life of another.
