Three factors you'll want to keep in mind while searching for your new plow are size, shape, and material.
- Plow size: For just plowing your driveway, a seven foot blade will suffice. For larger commercial work, go for an eight foot plow at the minimum.
- Plow shape: Straight blades are popular because they're more affordable (and can still get the job done). But V-blades can cut through frozen snow easier, and direct snow differently than straight blades.
- Plow material: All three of the following materials are capable, but have their pros and cons. Poly plows are the most slick, and resistant to scratches, dents, and rust, but it is heavier than steel. Stainless steel is resistant to rust and easier on the eyes, but is more prone to dents and scratches. Mild steel is the durable, rigid, and reliable industry standard, but rust will occur over time.
