Recently, executives at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced plans to produce a new Jeep Wrangler-based pickup truck by late 2019.

For years, Jeep has teased the idea of a new pickup with the introduction of several concepts models that were never sent to production. The automaker has decided that now, after a 20+ year hiatus, is the best time to unleash this new off-roading masterpiece.

Possible names for the new Wrangler-truck are still being tossed around, with several previously used Jeep names being considered as well.

The Jeep Comanche was the last pickup sold by the automaker and it was discontinued back in 1992. While Jeep is well-known for its lineup of versatile SUV models, its long history in pickup truck production is nothing to be ignored either.

From the legendary Willys trucks of the 1940’s to the full-size Gladiator models of the 1960’s, Jeep has a renowned reputation in the pickup arena.

Jeep plans to produce the new pickups at their Toledo, OH factory which has been where all previous Jeep trucks were made as well.
